I can now accept a small number of new clients

I can now accept a small number of new clients. The waiting period for a first session at the moment is between 3 to 5 weeks. If you need to see someone urgently, please do not wait for me, and try to find someone who can see you sooner rather than later.

Before you contact me for the first time, please be sure to read the information under the ‘Appointments’ tab in the main menu. Especially important is the third item: Important information please read before contacting me.

If you would like to see a therapist who works in a similar way to me, and you do not mind working online, try my supervisee Kasia McMorland.

I kindly ask that people contact me by email. Text is not manageable for me, except for very short messages about appointment arrangements, or last minute things, etc. If you make contact with me for the first time, I have questions I need to ask. It is not manageable to do this by text, nor is it confidential enough for that matter.

I try to answer phone calls when I can. But when I am with clients, which is four days a week, my phone is on silent and I cannot take phone calls. In other words, it is not easy to get hold of me by phone. Email is by far the best way to get in touch with me.

Psychotherapy has come a long way from the theoretical field it used to be when I studied for my degree in the late 1990’s. Thanks to the ground breaking work of Dr Dan Siegel, psychotherapy now has a proper scientific framework.

There is no longer any excuse for mental health, or psychotherapy to remain a mystery to clients. Anyone can, and should understand what therapy is, and how the process works. Anyone can learn and apply the correct tools to develop the architecture of their brain, in order to grow and change, and to monitor and assess their own progress. All therapists should be able to explain how they work, and how their approach is meant to help clients with their challenges. It is not OK for any mental health professional to be defensive if asked about this, or to not have a clear answer.

If you wish to find out more about psychotherapy, and learn principles you can put into practice immediately, please read my short book, Therapy Without A Therapist. My journal/workbook Let’s Integrate is intended as a companion to Therapy Without a Therapist. It is meant for anyone who wishes to engage with the therapeutic process, and achieve what my clients achieve, even without seeing a therapist.

I have published other short books on topics like grief & adjustment to change, anxiety, trauma, and relationships. They are available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle.

*Please remember that therapists work in different ways, and that no two therapists are alike. But all practitioners should have a coherent framework for their practice. All therapists should be able to explain clearly how they work, and how the therapy they practice can help you with your difficulties. It is always a good idea to interview a therapist before you see them. It is not OK for any therapist to be vague about what they do, to dismiss questions about their work, or to avoid giving a respectful and clear answer.
